Drive Wheels & Tires
Drive wheels are comprised of an upper hub, and a lower plate, both constructed of 304 stainless steel. A tire is inserted between the upper hub and lower plate of the drive wheel to complete the assembly. The drive wheel and tire assemblies are attached and removed from the drive shafts on the capping machine quickly and easily by depressing the quick release button at the bottom of each drive shaft.
The tires are made of urethane, white rubber or black rubber. The tires grip the cap during the capping process. The grip generated by the tires is what allows the capping machine to tighten a cap onto a bottle. Tires will last for a very long time, but they do eventually wear out. To replace a tire, simply unscrew the lower plate from the upper hub. Remove the old tire and insert a new tire. Then screw the plate and hub back together.

How to use the selection chart.
The selection chart below contains the part numbers for each of the drive wheels and tires for the PumpCap™ & Versa-Max® Capping Machines. The chart is sorted by cap size. To find the correct drive wheel and tire size for your cap, measure the outside diameter of your cap and then use the chart to locate the cap range that your cap falls within.
- 1 inch drive wheels and tires can tighten caps from 15mm – 130mm in diameter. They are best suited for tightening smaller caps, less than 20mm in diameter
- 1.5 inch drive wheels and tires can tighten caps ranging from 20mm – 130mm in diameter and are ideally suited to tighten any cap within this range. They are the best choice for tightening caps larger than 20mm in diameter.
- 2.0 inch drive wheels and tires can tighten caps from 25mm – 130mm in diameter, however, they are only recommended in rare circumstances in which larger drive wheels and tires are beneficial.
Choosing the Right Tire for Your Application
Because the PumpCap™ and Versa-Max® capping machines generate excellent grip on the cap, we generally recommend that you purchase 80 durometer white or black rubber tires. These tires combine strong gripping power with a high tensile strength to provide excellent wear resistance. We also offer softer urethane and white rubber tires for more delicate applications.
